Multi-disciplinary questions to inscribe the audio-visual within digital media, interlacing the ancient methods and ideals of engraving and the perception for the transformation of aesthetic discourse of cultural politics with the contemporary writing of philosophy, from an ephemeral frame – the art of words

Seventeen years ago I began as a printmaker, mesmerised by the contiguous line expanding into movements, fields, forms, in resonance, etched upon a metal plate.
My etchings became either extremely small or life size and I never wanted to present them hanging on the walls following the mannerism which I saw only strengthening the act of the status quo. This led me to challenge also the limits of the materials into which I would print and printing recto-verso, identical on both sides, as I find it difficult to agree with dualisms. This allowed me to experiment with transparency and layered vision frequencies since my prints, installations and performances very often operated on a monochromatic scale. During that time I had a privilege to study the ancient choreography of Japanese papermaking with Sensei Ishimoto from Kochi. I also participated my first International exhibitions, in Musée d’Orsay, Paris and
Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan.

Hand in hand with my debut as a young artist working with traditional methods, I had my first encounters with digital media. I started to create digital prints and to combine the archaic methods I already was familiar with into contemporary solutions of image making and audio-visual creation. I was intrigued by the ideas to combine the logic of hypertexts with the artificial neural networks around the realm of virtual worlds. During 2000 I started to work with my partner David Knight, under the title
TJADER-KNIGHT inc. Since then we have participated international exhibitions,
film and media festivals as well as conferences and symposia with a number of linear and interactive productions as well as lecturing. While reflecting approaches for the mechanisms to touch the ineffable the language of TJADER-KNIGHT inc. nevertheless underpins strings of the very current debates of power, choice and collective individualism.

As an artist I have also found it natural to adopt different positions within my field.
I have worked as curator and producer for international projects and productions as well as director of a foundation of art and technology. I have also worked within the EC Information Society directorate general. Furthermore, I have found it important to follow my insight by the means of writing throughout my career, pertaining to the fields I best understand; art, culture, technology, philosophy and media. I have been authoring as well as reviewing and editing academic and creative writing. My current philosophical influences are marked post-structuralism, through critical angle. I have also studied futurology in order to strengthen this outlook.

For some years now I have enjoyed a greener life in the countryside. I have become an avid gardener, growing vegetables and old perennials. I enjoy growing trees from seed and have especially succeeded with cultivating Acers. It is my aim to create an original multidisciplinary contribution to knowledge as the combination of technology, research and the arts, contemporary culture and future communication technologies, praxis and poetic have always complimented each other in my vision.
